1 Dead, 6 Hurt In New Jersey Head-On Crash

ALLAMUCHY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Canadian woman was killed and six others were injured when two vehicles crashed into one another head-on in Allamuchy Township, N.J. Friday night.

State police told The Star-Ledger that Deepa Panchal, 53, of Windsor, Ontario suffered fatal head injuries in the crash, which occurred around 11:35 p.m. Friday on county route 517 in Allamuchy Township.

The six injured people were being treated for various injuries, none of which were considered life-threatening.

State police said a 32-year-old Hackettstown man was driving his car northbound when he failed to yield while making a left turn. His car then collided with a southbound minivan carrying six people.

Panchal, who was sitting in the left seat of the minivan's center row, was taken to a hospital but died a short time later.
