NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police on Saturday were asking for help from the public in finding a suspect who stole a woman’s iPhone near Columbia University.

Around 6:40 p.m. Dec. 9, the suspect walked up to the 32-year-old woman at 120th Street and Morningside Drive, and asked for directions, police said.

The victim held out her iPhone to search for the location to which the suspect asked directions. At that point, the suspect snatched away the iPhone and ran off through Morningside Park, police said.

Police have released a photo of the suspect.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
