New York Boat Show Set To Make A Splash At Javits Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a summer paradise inside Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

As CBS 2's Emily Smith reported, the venue is set to host the annual New York Boat Show from Wednesday to Sunday. The building is filled with the most advanced WaveRunners, tug boats, yachts and everything in between.

It's the show's 109th year, making it the longest running boat show in the world.

So what's "in" for 2014?

"A few years ago, it was deck boats and pontoons," said Dave Thomas of Scarab Boats. "Now, it seems like the jet boats are back in."

A first of its kind, Scarab has a line of $35,000 miniature jet boats designed for Generation Yers.

Also on display is a 35-foot yacht by Sea Ray with a grill. Buyers then get to spin a giant wheel for a chance to take home a free boat.

But the "queen" of the show is a 51-foot yacht. In its salon, there's a mini bar and flat-screen TV. Downstairs are extravagantly high ceilings, a leather sectional sofa, a full kitchen and two bedrooms. It also has top-of-the-line navigation that allows its drivers to dock without error using a joystick.

"Like a kid with a video game," said John Pritko, manager of the New York Boat Show.

The yacht costs about $1.5 million, Pritko said.

If a boat isn't in your budget, there are also WaveRunners with beefed-up engines that accelerate from 0 to 30 mph in less than two seconds.

"This is the fastest accelerating watercraft on the market," said Martino Ruggiero of Yamaha.

If boating is not for you, head to the show featuring "Swampmaster" Jeff Quattroochi and his alligators.

Whether planning your summer on the water or just looking, the show promises fun for all.
