New York Aquarium Breaks Ground On New Shark Exhibit
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Aquarium in Coney Island has broken ground on a building that will house a new shark exhibit.
The 57,000-square-foot "Ocean Wonders: Sharks!'' will feature a coral reef tunnel that will give visitors a 360-degree view of the exhibit when it opens in 2016.
"This represents a tremendous benefit to not only the aquarium and the visitors but to the community, to educators and to marine conservation in New York," Jon Forrest Dohlin, Vice President and Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society's New York Aquarium, told 1010 WINS.

The $127 million project will feature more than 100 species of marine mammals including more than 45 different sharks.
Superstorm Sandy delayed construction of the project, which was supposed to start last year.
The aquarium suffered roughly $65 million in damage.
It partially reopened to the public last May.
The aquarium got the main exhibits back up and running after $10 million of work and Dohlin hopes it will be fully functioning for the grand opening of the shark exhibit.
