NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Three LIRR trains were cancelled during the Wednesday evening rush due to a broken rail west of Rockville Centre.
The 4:52 p.m. train from Penn Station, due at Babylon at 5:55 p.m. was cancelled, along with the 5:23 p.m. from Atlantic Terminal due at Babylon at 6:36 p.m., and the 6:03 p.m. train from Babylon due at Penn Station at 7:04 p.m.
To accommodate customers, the 5:03 p.m. run from Penn to Wantagh was to be extended to Babylon, and customers on the 5:23 p.m. Atlantic Terminal train were advised to take the 5:35 p.m. train to Jamaica and transfer for service to Babylon.
Customers on the Babylon and Montauk LIRR branches were advised to expect delays of up to 25 minutes and further cancellations of both eastbound and westbound trains due to the broken rail.
Repairs were expected to take about three to four hours.
The cause of the broken rail was not immediately learned.
