NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — Detectives in Suffolk County are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead and another critically injured on Friday night.
The accident took place at 8:20 p.m., Fermin Estevez was driving a 2003 Acura southbound on Pidgeon Hill Road in South Huntington when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2013 Toyota minivan being driven by Anthony Depalo, police said.
Coles Jacquet, 30, of Huntington Station was riding in the Acura. Jacquet was pronounced dead at the scene. Estevez, 23, of Greenlawn was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and was listed in critical condition with head injuries, according to authorities.
Depalo and his wife Sharon, both 34, along with their children, a 5 and 3-year-old male, and a 6-month-old female, were taken to Huntington Hospital. Anthony and his children were treated and released. His wife was treated for minor injuries.
The vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
