Harlem Apartment Fire Leaves Man Dead

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was found dead Wednesday in a fire in a Harlem apartment.

Police and fire crews responded to the building at 2657 Frederick Douglass Blvd. shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and police found the 68-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive in the apartment, police said.

The man was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The fire marshal was investigating the cause of the fire, and the New York City Medical Examiner's office was investigating the cause of death.

The man's identity had not been released late Wednesday, pending family notification.
