Nassau County SPCA: Someone Cut Off Pit Bull Puppy's Leg, Ears

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Nassau County SPCA is searching for the person responsible for torturing a pit bull puppy that is now looking for a loving home.

The now 7-month-old puppy, named "Miss Harper," was found in September.

Det. Robert Sowers said the dog's back leg and both her ears had been cut off.

"She had severe infections and needed some expensive care," Sowers told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

The dog has been receiving care at My Pets Vet in Huntington since she was found.

Doctors and staff said Miss Harper is loving and sweet and is already running and playing.

"We're going to look to get her a prosthetic now to see if that's something that she can live with, we hope that it is," said practice manager Donna Kramer.

Miss Harper is now in need of surgeries and a permanent home.

"We are asking the public and animal lovers to help us in our efforts to raise funds for the needed surgeries and care that this poor puppy faces," Sowers said. "More importantly, for this sweet little girl...we have to find a loving home."

Donations are being accepted through the Nassau County SPCA's website. Those interested in adopting, please email adopt@ncspca.us.

Meanwhile, the SPCA is working with the New York State Attorney General's Office to find who is responsible for hurting Miss Harper.
