New Jersey Choir To Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII

NEW JERSEY (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey choir is about to make its mark on the Super Bowl.

As CBS 2's Alice Gainer reported Friday, the New Jersey Youth Chorus is set to perform alongside Newark, N.J. native Queen Latifah during the Super Bowl.

Choir member Kellianne Kornick said the group has performed for large audiences before, but nothing like singing at MetLife Stadium for the Super Bowl.

"We've been to some big venues like NJPAC. Probably about a thousand (people)," Kornick said.

"I mean really there's thousands and thousands of people there," choir member Dominique Paredes-Rupp said. Not to mention the millions watching at home.

Choir director Trish Joyce said on Monday the girls were surprised with a Skype session with Queen Latifah.

"'I've heard a clip of you and think you sound wonderful and would love you to sing America the Beautiful with me at the Super Bowl' and of course the room erupted," Joyce said of Queen Latifah's invitation.

"Me and my friend next to me we screamed 'oh my gosh that's Queen Latifah,'" Kornick recalled.

"I just picked one that I thought would be cool. Really bringing the song across the way I wanted to perform it and I thought their voices would fit perfectly," Latifah said of her choice.

The young ladies got together to rehearse with Queen Latifah at the stadium on Friday.
