Home Health Aide Accused Of Stealing Thousands From Southern New Jersey Resident

BRICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A home health aide is accused of stealing thousands of dollars while working for an elderly southern New Jersey resident.

According to police in Brick, N.J., 46-year-old Asbury Park resident Sheila McFadden stole $19,000 worth of checks from the victim last year.

Brick police said they learned of the thefts in December, after McFadden was arrested by Lakewood police while attempting to cash one of the stolen checks.

Investigators said McFadden cashed 11 additional checks that were taken from the victim.

Lakewood police have charged McFadden with forgery and receiving stolen property.

McFadden was being held in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail, and it was not known Tuesday if she had retained an attorney.
