NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Travis d’Arnaud says the Mets have the pieces to be Amazin’ in 2014.

The 25-year-old catcher sounded excited to get to work when speaking to reporters Monday from the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

“I expect a lot from this team,” d’Arnaud said, according to the New York Post. “I expect us to play hard, and ultimately win and try to make (the) playoffs, that’s what I want to do. I want to make the playoffs, win a World Series and I want to get a ring.”

Mets brass followed through on a promise to spend during the hot stove period, bringing in outfielders Curtis Granderson and Chris Young and veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon. But they lost ace Matt Harvey to reconstructive elbow surgery and failed to find takers — or replacements — for embattled infielders Ruben Tejada and Ike Davis.

“We’re looking good this year and I think we are going to do some amazing things,” said d’Arnaud, who came from the Toronto organization with pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard in last offseason’s R.A. Dickey trade.

D’Arnaud hit .202 with a home run and five RBIs for the Mets in 2013.

Though d’Arnaud insists defense is his “No. 1 job,” he’s confident he’ll find his stroke in his first full season in the majors.

“Last year, I feel like every pitch, I was thinking something about my swing compared to focusing on the ball and focusing on seeing the ball and hitting the ball,” he said. “I just have to slow the game down, and toward the end I started feeling a little more comfortable and a lot of weight came off my shoulders.”
