Police said the 54-year-old victim was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck.

"A male white in his 50s, average height with a thin build who was wearing a black jacket and a red hat exited the truck, covered the victim with a blanket before fleeing the scene without identifying himself," Nassau County Police Det. Vincent Garcia told Hall.

The victim suffered severe head lacerations and a fractured pelvis, police said.

"It is kind of odd that the person did stop, got out of the vehicle and decided to cover him with a blanket. We don't know what possibly could've been the motivation behind that. And then to leave the scene," said Garcia.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
