2 Dead, 1 Wounded In Newark Shooting; 3 Cars Crash In Related Incident
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police late Monday afternoon were on the scene of a deadly shooting, and three cars crashed in a related incident, in Newark.
As CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported, police said the incidents happened at the junction of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street in Newark.
Tree people were shot – two men and a woman. As of 9 p.m., a tow truck was hauling away one of the cars, which early reports indicated that all the three victims had been inside at the time of the shooting.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was pronounced dead at University Hospital, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
The man's body was left for hours partway out of the vehicle covered by a sheet.
The second male shooting victim was being treated at an area hospital in an unknown condition.
There was also a crash involving three cars, police said. Investigators Monday night were still working out which came first – the gunshots or the crunching of metal.

It was not known if the victims were the intended targets in the shooting, and investigators could not rule out a drive-by shooting.
Witnesses told the police the gunmen fled the scene while three cars crashed – prompting police to block off the intersection. Witnesses saw a black Jeep speed away.
"All we heard was… the gunshots; we didn't know, like, we heard that it was a dead body, but we didn't know, and we just came to make sure wasn't our family member," said Ahmad Goines of Newark.
"It's sad," added Jones. "It's getting ridiculous, you know what I mean?"
Police said two other people who were not in the car with the gunshot victims were also injured, but not as seriously.
