NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Hakeem Nicks says he’s not looking for a so-called “prove-it” deal in free agency.

Nicks clarified his stance Sunday after ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the oft-injured wide receiver would consider a one-year contract if teams aren’t sold on him due to a history of foot and knee issues.

“Players have already started to reach out to me from other teams saying they would love for me to come join them,” Nicks told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “I just want to make it clear that I want a long-term deal and I want to be happy. I’m excited about talking to teams and making it work.”

Nicks could still land a big payday as a deep-threat wideout when free agency officially begins Tuesday. He signed with rapper Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports agency last month.

The 26-year-old told Anderson that he could be a team’s “missing link,” specifically mentioning quarterbacks in Indy, Carolina and San Diego.

“I know if I went to a place like Indianapolis, I would be dangerous with a quarterback like Andrew Luck,” he said. “I can see myself catching passes from Cam Newton or even Philip Rivers.”

Nicks had a forgettable 2013 season for the offensively challenged New York Giants, catching just 56 passes for 896 yards and no touchdowns.
