Off-Duty NYPD Officer Accused Of DWI, Reportedly After Queens Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD officer was arrested and charged with driving drunk early Saturday, reportedly after a crash in Queens.

Officer Liam Donahue, 22, was arrested at 6:13 a.m. Saturday in the 111th Precinct in northeast Queens, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police did not provide further details. But officials told the New York Daily News the off-duty rookie officer was arrested after striking an empty car on 40th Avenue near 218th Street in Bayside, Queens just over an hour before he was arrested.

Police told the newspaper Donahue refused a Breathalyzer test, and was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for evaluation after the crash.

Donahue joined the NYPD in July and had been working from the Patrol Borough Manhattan North, the newspaper reported.
