DUNELLEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A man was shot and wounded by his own weapon Friday as officers tried to arrest him in Dunellen, N.J., police said.

Dunellen police were sent to the unidentified man’s house on Columbia Street in Dunellen around 1:25 p.m. to arrest him on charges out of New Brunswick, N.J. of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child charges, police said.

As officers went in to apprehend the man, a struggle began, police said. The man drew a weapon and was wounded, police said.
