Prosecutor: New Jersey Landscaper Stole Nearly $180,000 From Elderly Customer

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A landscaper in New Jersey is accused of stealing about $180,000 from a 96-year-old customer over a four-year period.

Denis Marvin Solis, 54, convinced the woman to write checks for work at her property that was never done, prosecutors said.

Solis also asked for multiple checks ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 for the same job, claiming the woman never paid him, investigators said.

Solis of West Orange faces charges of theft and theft by deception. He is being held on $75,000 bail.
