Donald Trump Looking Into Investing In The Buffalo Bills?
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He says he's seriously considering it.
Billionaire Donald Trump told a Buffalo radio station on Tuesday that he's looking into possibly investing in the Bills.
"I heard about it last week. A group of people called me, would I be interested in investing, and I'll take a look at it," Trump told WBEN-AM. "I look at lot of things; it's certainly a wonderful franchise. The people are amazing. The fans are amazing in Buffalo."
The 67-year-old business magnate said if he does get involved he would absolutely keep the Bills right where they are. He called the team a "storied franchise" and added keeping it in western New York is "vital to the area."
It's a tough time right now in Buffalo following the death of longtime owner Ralph Wilson and daily reminders of franchise legend Jim Kelly's ongoing cancer fight. News of Trump's interest in the Bills comes on the same day the team's stadium committee is meeting to consider whether the Bills need a new stadium or if Ralph Wilson Stadium needs further renovations, WIVB-TV reported.
There have been rumors in recent years of the Bills relocating, perhaps to Toronto, though there has never been enough momentum leaning the narrative that way.
"It would be catastrophic in my opinion if Buffalo lost the Buffalo Bills," Trump said.
The Bills finished 2013 with their third straight 6-10 record and have not had a winning season since going 9-7 back in 2004. Once a team that made four consecutive trips to the Super Bowl, the Bills have not made the playoffs since 1999.
