NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — Police on Long Island have arrested four people in connection with an attempted grand larceny that took place in New Cassel on Thursday night.

The defendants allegedly devised a plan to call the family of a ‘victim’ to demand a $2,000 ransom in exchange for the safe return of a kidnapping victim. Upon investigation police found the defendants in a room at the EconoLodge Motel in Hicksville, police said.

Officers entered the room and found all occupants in good health, with a bag that was believed to contain a controlled substance, however no kidnapping victims were present.

Wendy Suprien, 20, of New Cassel, Scharday Hilton, 28, of Huntington Station, Wisard Dextra, 20, of Westbury, and Sheyla Diaz, 19, of the Bronx were arrested and charged with second degree grand larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, conspiracy in the fourth degree, and falsely reporting an incident in the third degree.

Dextra was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and Diaz was charged with prostitution. A fifth individual who was not involved in the alleged grand larceny was charged with patronizing a prostitute. He was given a desk appearance ticket for April 22.

The other defendants were scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
