One-Of-A-Kind Art And Decent Prices Meet In Chelsea At The 'Affordable Art Fair'

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- If you have ever wanted buy art but found the prices to be overwhelming then the Affordable Art Fair may be your chance to snag a one-of-a-kind piece at a decent price.

From colorful abstracts to the quirky, the whimsical, and the serene, an array of pieces were available under one roof at the annual fair in Chelsea, CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported.

"Any New Yorker should be able to come in and fall in love with a piece of art no matter the size of their wallet,"fair director Christina Salmastrelli said.

The pieces were priced from a few hundred dollars up to $10,000. The display showcased work by lesser known and renowned artists.

"These are affordable works. Damien Hurst, some of his pieces have sold for millions of dollars," Salmastrelli said.

Husrt's pieces are capped at $9,500 at the show where visitors can meet some of the artists in person.

"Give them a cigar, have a glass of rum with them, and then suddenly you have a lifelong friend who is amazingly inspiring," artist James Sparshatt said.

Beyond the eye-catching exhibits visitors were excited about the opportunity to get a look at work done by artists on the rise.

"There's a lot of young emerging artists coming out of school so we like to support them," Lauren Taylor Wolfe said.

With pieces available for every price point the fair is sure to satisfy your appetite for art. For those who missed the fair, the event is scheduled to return to Chelsea in September.
