Hundreds Of Thousands Expected At UConn Championship Parade

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Organizers say they're expecting hundreds of thousands of people to attend a parade in Hartford on Sunday for the University of Connecticut men's and women's national championship basketball teams.

Laura Soll, a spokeswoman for parade organizers, said that the degree of excitement over this year's championships and ideal weather conditions forecast for Sunday are expected to boost attendance to levels seen 10 years ago when about 300,000 turned out to celebrate the last time both teams won national titles.

The parade is set for 4 p.m. and will begin and end at the state Capitol, according to Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy.

A victory rally will be held on the north steps of the Capitol following the parade.

At least 22 companies have donated more than $70,000 to pay for the celebratory events.
