NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Jets are among six teams that have shown serious interest in drafting former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The others teams include the Ravens, the Falcons, the Patriots, the Colts and the Browns, according to the newspaper.

The aforementioned teams have kept in touch with the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year since the NFL Scouting Combine concluded in late February, according to the newspaper.

Sam came out on February 9, and is expected to become the first openly-gay player in NFL history.

The All-American is expected to be a mid- to late-round selection.

“A trailblazer?” the 24-year-old said during the combine. “I feel like I’m Michael Sam. I just wish you guys would see me as Michael Sam the football player, instead of Michael Sam the gay football player. There’s a lot of support out there. I just want to do what I do, and that’s play football.”

The Galveston, Texas native played four years at Missouri. He’s listed at 6-foot-2 and 261 pounds, and ran a 4.92 40-yard dash at the combine.
