NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — As the weather grew summerlike, four African lion cubs had their day out in the sun at the Bronx Zoo Thursday.

The lion cubs debuted last fall, but received their formal introduction Thursday as they came outside to enjoy the sun.

Born back on Aug. 16, the litter is composed of three males – Thulani, Ime, and Bahata – and one female, Amara. Their mother is Sukari, 9, and their father is M’wasi, 11, the zoo said.

This is the third litter for Sukari and M’wasi.

The lion cubs reside in the African Plains exhibit at the zoo, already described as among the most popular exhibits.

African lions have been designated as threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and the Bronx Zoo breeds lions as part of the species survival plan, the zoo said.
