Police Arrest Man Allegedly Sleeping On Subway Train With Gun In Hand

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A South Carolina man sleeping on a subway train in Times Square was arrested Saturday after a passenger noticed him holding a loaded handgun, police said.

The conductor of a southbound N train summoned police via radio after a woman passenger reported seeing an armed man sprawled out on subway seats.

Demarrius Jackson was arrested around 7 a.m. on charges of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, and unlawful possession of marijuana, authorities said.

Three police officers arrested the 19-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina with his hand on the handle of a defaced 9mm gun tucked in his waistband.

The officers recoverd the loaded gun without incident, police said.
