Plenty Of Mother's Day Gift Ideas Are Still Out There

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday, but there's still time if you're scrambling for a gift.

As CBS 2's Cindy Hsu reported Wednesday, there are still great ideas out there for all sorts of moms.

If your mom loves gardening, horticulture experts advise getting her flowers she can plant.

"If you want to do something quick and something that's readily available, you can order (the potted flowers) right online," said Jay Casiano of Plant Shed New York Flowers. "We'll wrap it up with beautiful cellophane paper and a big bow on it, and instant happy Mother's Day."

Another option is a gift basket of gardening goodies, Casiano said.

"We give you seeds, we give you soil, we give you gloves, we give hand tools -- everything you need for a nice gift," Casiano said.

Meanwhile, mothers who love to exercise have some high-tech options, including a lightweight, wireless headset you can wear while you sweat.

"It's the LG Tone Ultra -- it's like a necklace; you forget that you have it on," said lifestyle expert Katlean de Monchy. "And then you put the earbuds in your ears. You can listen to music, you can get phone calls, and you can even listen to audio books."

There are also all sorts of smart watches with a fitness component. With the Gear Fit, you can read e-mails, text messages and monitor your heart rate and exercise goals.

And for the traveler, there are lots of fun little gifts to carry your stuff -- from bathing suits and shoes to medication.

"This is, in fact, a pillow," de Monchy said as she showed one item. "But what's really cool is that inside, you also have a blanket – so you know how it always gets chilly with air conditioning?"

For the mom who enjoys cooking, there are all sorts of classes at Sur la Table -- or you can go for the goody basket.

"This has got the waffle iron -- you can put this right on your stove top with the mix and the syrup, and all you have to do is make her some coffee and you're done," said Aysar Rida of Sur la Table.

And if reading is your mom's big thing, you can get a box set of books. Or if she uses a tablet, go for a gift card so she can choose her favorite books.
