Police Questioning Man After 2 People Shot To Death In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man is in custody after police said two men were shot and killed early Friday morning in the Bronx.

It happened just after 4:30 a.m. Friday in the area of Rombouts Avenue and Light Street in Eastchester. Police were responding to a 911 call of a robbery when they found two men with gunshot wounds inside a car, authorities said.

Neighbors said they heard multiple shots being fired.

"After 4 a.m., I woke up to about nine shots and that was coming out of sleep. I'm pretty sure there was a lot more than that," nearby resident Charlana Walker told 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa. "I couldn't make out what they were saying, but you could just hear something was going on. They were calling out for something, somebody."

"I was sleeping and I heard several gunshots, like a dozen," said another man. "We looked through the window and we saw somebody calling for help."

The man sitting in the driver's seat, identified as 28-year-old Jermaine Johnson, had been shot in the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man sitting in the passenger's seat, identified as Kaisson Lewis, 23, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot in the head and torso, police said. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a man was taken into custody at the scene. Two guns, a .40 caliber and 9mm, were also recovered, police said.

No word yet on what sparked the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
