Standard Hotel Decries Video Leak Of Jay-Z, Solange Altercation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Standard Hotel in New York City says it is investigating the leak of a security video that appears to show Beyonce's sister, Solange, attacking Jay-Z.

Asked about the video on Monday, the hotel issued a statement saying it is "shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system.''

"We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity," the hotel said.

The hotel said the leaked video violates the confidentiality the establishment provides customers.

TMZ posted the minute-long video Monday and said it was shot last week inside a Standard Hotel elevator. The footage shows the performers in the outfits they wore to the Met Gala last week and appears to show Solange attacking Jay-Z in Beyonce's presence. A security guard intervenes. There is no audio.

The security guard appears to stop the elevator so Solange can compose herself, but she instead remains hostile toward Jay-Z.

TMZ posted a longer, three-minute version of the video later Monday. Representatives for Beyonce, Jay-Z and Solange didn't immediately reply to emails seeking comment.

After seeing the video some people were puzzled because Beyonce doesn't seem to have much of a reaction to her sister's violent outburst.

"I think if they're at a point where they're kicking each other in an elevator, you need to sit them down," Midtown resident Emily Joseph told CBS 2's Elise Finch on Tuesday.

"It was kind of surprising that she didn't do anything," added Ranel Williams of Flatbush.

"I'd probably try to mediate some sort of a truce," said Taylor Black of Williamsburg.

Others said at that moment Beyonce did the right thing by basically staying out of it.

"You don't want to side with one or the other. You'd rather them work it out," said Zoran Milosevic of Middle Village.

Finch asked a clinical psychologist what you should do when your spouse and your sibling aren't getting along.

"Get to the bottom of why do you hate that relative. Do something about it if you can. And that means encouraging them to talk about it with the three of them, having a family intervention, seeing a therapist. If it reaches the point where it continues and it becomes violent, no contact until it's resolved," Dr. Judy Kuriansky said.

Kuriansky said even with therapy some family relationships can't be fixed.

Meanwhile, Beyonce left the hotel in a car with her sister.

The video spawned the hashtag #WhatJayZSaidToSolange on Twitter, which has become one of the top trending topics, as well as memes and other parodies.

Jay-Z, 44, and Beyonce, 32, were married in 2008. They will kick-off their co-headlining "On the Run Tour'' on June 25 in Miami.

This past weekend, the two were spotted sitting court side at a Brooklyn Nets game.

Solange, 27, recently performed at the Vulture Festival at Webster Hall and at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where Beyonce joined her onstage.
