Police Take 3 Into Custody After East Harlem Stabbing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were in police custody Thursday evening, after a man was chased down and stabbed in East Harlem.

As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, the stabbing happened Thursday afternoon at Second Avenue and East 99th Street. But witnesses said it all began with a quarrel four blocks north at 103rd Street.

"They jumped, and three people jumped, and they were hitting him. He was screaming. When he got here, he was trying to run away from them," said one woman who did not want to give her name.

The witness said one of the assailants – a woman – drove her car the wrong way to block the victim.

"Blocked him as the cops were coming up the block, so I guess what attracted them is that she came down a one-way street," she said.

The witness said the man fell and the assailants took out a knife and stabbed him.

Two men and a woman were taken into police custody on the spot.

The incident occurred right outside Metropolitan Hospital Center, where the staffers came out with a stretcher to attend to the victim.

As of early Thursday evening, the victim's condition was reported as stable.
