Zombies Invade Williamsburg ... To Barhop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It wasn't exactly the apocalypse, but  zombies did descend upon a number of Brooklyn bars Sunday.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, a few hundred people participating in the eighth annual Zombie Crawl wore fake blood and latex -- to look like peeling skin -- and hopped between drinking establishment in Williamsburg.

Special effects artist Doug Sakmann, whose credits include "Punk Rock Holocaust" and "Slumber Party Slaughterhouse," started the event in 2007, originally just for his friends.

"Every year has escalated into what it is now," he said.

Barhopping when you're undead does have its advantages apparently.

One participant said zombies can't get hangovers and can drink as much as they want -- "unless the fiancee says no."

"You can drink all you want and not have to worry about getting fat," Sakmann added.

So what does a zombie drink?

According to one participant, a bloody Mary.

"I love brains," added one woman.

When Stern pointed out that bars don't serve brains, she responded: "No, they don't. But they also serve beer, and beer's just as good."
