Scout Willis Wins Praise For Topless Protest On Twitter

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Scout Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, undertook a bold protest via Twitter this week.

Willis, 22, posted photos of herself on Twitter walking around New York City and shopping at a flower and produce stand topless. She wore a floral skirt and brown shoes, and not much else.

"My comfort with my body should not be dictated by how others perceive me," Willis tweeted. "However, I don't wish to force this view on anyone."

Willis said she did it in a protest of the policy against nudity on Instagram. The photo sharing site already removed one of her photos for violating its community standards.

The Instagram picture showed Willis wearing a sweat shirt that showed two topless women on it.

"This is about helping women feel empowered to make personal choices about their bodies not dictated by what society says is decent," Willis tweeted on Thursday.

Willis also retweeted an assortment of supportive tweets, using the hashtag "#FreeTheNipple."

"I don't understand why this is such a big deal. For gods sake, our puritanical socity (sic) needs to get over itself," tweeted David Farhi.

"My 3 year old Daughter said its not fair that she has to keep her shirt on when its hot. Shes right," tweeted Tom Andrews.

It is perfectly legal for men and women to appear topless in public in New York City.
