What's Hot In Summer Fashion For 2014

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Summer is only a few weeks away, but it already feels like it for many in the Tri-State area, and that means breaking out those summer clothes.

CBS 2's Cindy Hsu teamed up with fashion expert Dawn Delrusso to talk about the must-haves for this season.

The big summer color this year is mint and white is everywhere, Hsu reported.

"I love to mix it with corals. Coral looks beautiful with the mint color. It really looks nice -- or whites or neutral tones," Delrusso said.

Delrusso said a lot of women are using turbans to express themselves this season.

"Turbans are happening," she said.

And you can make your own with a long silk scarf, Hsu reported.

When it comes to jewelry, monograms are in, especially on bracelets.

Pink is back in for nail color this summer.

Cropped pants are also back, especially when paired with heels.

With summer sandals, embellishments are big. And you can add your own sparkle to an old sandal just by digging through your old, broken jewelry.

"It's a great time to pull that out and use it to embellish your sandal. You can get a hot glue gun or just a little super glue" and you've got a new look for an old sandal.

When it comes to sunglasses, think big and bold. The same goes for bright tote bags. You may also see a lot of clear plastic bags that can go from work to the beach while protecting everything inside from sand and water.

As far as things that are not so hot this season, the super short shorts can stay in the closet this summer, Hsu reported.
