Jesutoyia, 9, told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola that she had a very specific reason for being there.

"To get free books," she said.

The giveaway was sponsored by the Federation of Teachers, and First Book, a non-profit that receives books from the publishing industry.

The event was held at Refuge Church of Christ, where pastor Bishop Leroy Joseph Sr. said that he was thrilled with the turnout.

"Well it makes me feel good. It makes the whole community feel good I think, because it's a blessing to see the little children very interested in reading," he said.
