Police Search For Person Who Abandoned Dog Outside L.I. Walmart

COMMACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was offering a $2,000 reward Wednesday for information leading to an arrest in the abandonment of a pit bull behind a Walmart.

The female dog was found tied to a shopping cart behind the Walmart in Commack, Long Island on Monday, the SPCA said. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic, where she was found to be between 1 1/2 and 2 years old and suffering from a skin disease – possibly due to malnutrition.

The dog was also lactating, and the SPCA was worried about possible puppies who are in need of their mother.

A man was caught on video abandoning the dog, and the SPA was searching for a person of interest.
