New Gun Safety PSA Shows Children Playing With Sex Toys

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new public service announcement takes aim at gun safety in a very unique way.

And one that isn't necessarily safe for work.

New York-based non-profit Evolve's PSA "Playthings" is a 30-second spot showing two mothers discussing their sons' play date.

The discussion soon turns to embarrassment when the boys run out of the house playing with the woman's vibrators as if they are toy swords or sabres.

The scene sets up the tag line, "If they find it, they'll play with it," and ends with the words, "Always lock up your guns."

"Adults keep all kinds of things around the house they wouldn't want kids playing with. We're saying responsible adults store these things so kids can't get their hands on them," said advertising executive Jon Bond in a news release.

"Our PSA is humorous, but the message is serious. Parents need to take ownership of safety in the house. If you don't want kids to play with it, put it away – it's up to you to keep your stuff locked up. We're using humor to cut through political correctness and deliver a simple message. Americans can have a serious conversation about firearm safety that doesn't devolve into a political abyss," added Evolve Co-Founder Rebecca Bond.
