Sail4Kids Brings Adventure To Families Dealing With Illnesses
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The annual Sail4Kids event, being held Sunday, takes families dealing with serious medical issues for a memorable adventure.
The event is sponsored by the American Yacht Club in Rye and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.
“We take families out for an afternoon sail on Long Island Sound, followed by a barbecue and shore activities, where there’s arts and crafts, you can learn to do knot-tying that they do on boats,” Sail4Kids’ Sue Parish told CBS 2′s Andrea Grymes.
Twelve-year-old Gabriel Sanchez — who was diagnosed with a liver disease in 2011 but has since been cured — was one of the participants set to hit the water.
“I’m super excited,” Gabriel said.
“I’m doing great, and life is good,” he added.
