No Jets, Giants On List Of NFL’s Top-Selling Jerseys; Manziel No. 1

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – New York found itself shut out of the playoffs last season.
The Giants and Jets haven’t had much luck on the jersey-sales front, either.
Neither team had a player crack the top 25 on NFLShop.com, according to a list released by the league Monday.
Meanwhile, a backup quarterback — albeit an ultra-popular one — was No. 1 in jerseys sold. There was a Manning, but it wasn’t Eli. The 10th best-seller didn’t even belong to a player.
Johnny Manziel, who will begin his first training camp this week second on Cleveland’s depth chart, had the league’s top-selling jersey. The league said that Manziel’s No. 2 outsold all others from April 1 to July 17.
Dick’s Sporting Goods also said that Manziel’s jersey is its top seller.
Manziel was followed on the NFLShop.com list by three quarterbacks: Seattle’s Russell Wilson, Denver’s Peyton Manning and San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick. Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was fifth followed by St. Louis rookie Michael Sam, the league’s first openly gay player.
New England’s Tom Brady was seventh and New Orleans QB Drew Brees was eighth on the list. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was ninth, and the top 10 was rounded out by Seattle’s “12th fan,” referring to the raucous Seahawks fan base.
Minnesota rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was 13th and Houston defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, the top overall pick, had the 16th best-selling jersey.
The league did not say how many Manziel jerseys — priced at $99.95 a pop — sold during the period. More than a few seemed to have been purchased in the Cleveland area, where brown or white Manziel jerseys can be found all over the city.
The Browns drafted the former Texas A&M star, who earned his Johnny Football nickname with his playmaking ability, with the No. 22 overall pick on May 8. He’s scheduled to report to training camp on Wednesday and will battle with Brian Hoyer to be Cleveland’s starter.
