CENTRAL VALLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) –A woman was out of custody on bail Tuesday, after being arrested in Orange County for allegedly leaving a child unattended in a car.
Around 4 p.m. this past Saturday, two Town of Woodbury police officers were patrolling the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets parking lots when a passerby flagged them down and told them a child had been left alone in a car, police said.
The officers found the vehicle, in which a child under 2 years old had been left strapped into a car seat with the doors locked and the windows partially open, police said.
After 15 minutes, the mother returned from shopping, and police took the mother into custody and took her and the child to the Town of Woodbury police station, police said.
The child was taken away from the mother and handed over to the Orange County Child Protective Services, police said.
The mother – Sylvia Harden, 35, of New York City – was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said. She was released on $300 self bail, and ordered to appear in court on Wednesday.
