Community Gathers At Site Of Crash That Claimed The Lives Of Randolph Teens
RANDOLPH, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey community has been devastated by the deaths of two popular high school students.
Through ever flowing tears, countless hugs, and flowers the Randolph community was in pain on Sunday, CBS 2's Don Champion reported.
Friends and family gathered at the site where the lives of two native sons ended.
Incoming Randolph High School Seniors Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga were killed on Saturday afternoon when the car that they were riding in crashed on Ironia Road.
Best friend Tom Richards had just texted Verduga minutes before the accident.
"We had big plans for the night. it was a grad party and all of a sudden started getting all these reports," he said.
Investigators would not say how the car crashed but skid marks and police markings show the path that the car took on the small and winding rural road.
Police said that two other teens were in the car when the accident happened.
John Isemanm was Timmerman's pastor, he told CBS 2's Champion that the community was struggling to cope with the loss of the teens.
"He was a good kid and the community is weeping right now," Isemann said.
Friends said that the teens were like brothers and lived to play football.
"They literally loved Randolph. They worked hard every single day. They were literally at the gym right before they left to go to this kid's house," Max Zibitsker said.
Even though school is out for the summer, counselors will be on hand at Randolph High on Monday for grieving students.
A memorial service will be held on Monday night, at St. Matthew's Church.
