Fire Guts Sushi Restaurant, Causes Traffic Disruptions In Murray Hill

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire tore through a Japanese restaurant in Murray Hill Friday morning, sending thick smoke billowing into the air and causing traffic disruptions in the area.

The two-alarm fire broke out round 11 a.m. at Ginza Sushi on 35th Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues.

Photos from the scene showed a large plume of black smoke rising high above the buildings.

Firefighters were quickly able to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

The fire forced the closure of numerous streets in the area, but the roadways have since reopened.
