TOTOWA, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Two workers were hurt in an explosion so powerful, it shook homes more than a mile away, CBS 2 reported

The blast occurred inside Pharmachem Labs in Totowa around 7 p.m. and blew off part of the facility’s roof and shattered windows on nearby buildings.

People from all around the area said they felt the rumbling.

“It shook the houses. It shook us. We all looked at each other and knew it wasn’t a firework,” Totowa Resident Kevin Frank said. “Our first reaction was propane tank. We thought somebody’s barbecue grill went off. Then we realized it was a little too loud for that.”

The cause of the blast nor the extent of injuries is known at this time.
