Cops: Two Dead Following Wreck On LIE In Queens

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Two people were dead following a car crash in Queens.

The accident happened shortly after midnight, near Exit 22 on the Long Island Expressway.

A speeding car apparently hit a guardrail and overturned, according to police. The driver had been headed west in the center lane and was trying to shift into the left lane at the time of the accident, police said.

After running into a median, the vehicle veered back across the roadway, hit a guardrail, and flipped over, cops said

The vehicle burst into flames, and it took firefighters some 30 minutes to fight the blaze and remove the victims from the car.

The two people inside of the vehicle were taken to area hospitals and pronounced dead, 1010 WINS reported.
