Matt Harvey: 'I Couldn't Be Happier' With 20-Pitch Bullpen Session

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Matt Harvey is feeling good about Tuesday's 20-pitch bullpen session in Port St. Lucie.

The Mets ace said it felt like "nothing had happened," even though he's just 10 months removed from Tommy John surgery.

"I didn't think things would feel this good and this easy, but I couldn't be happier," Harvey said, according to the team's official website. "Excited about moving forward."

Harvey, 25, threw off the mound for the first time since surgery on Friday. He said his mechanics were solid in Tuesday's session.

"I feel like they didn't leave in the amount of time that I wasn't able to use them," Harvey said. "I was happy that things were smooth and I'm glad I had no setbacks."

The Mets plan to keep the right-hander on a throwing program through September, when he could then pitch in a less-intense instructional league or Arizona Fall League game.

Of course, Harvey would rather get some action for the big-league club. He even joked that maybe he'd be ready for a playoff game.

"It's a long process," Harvey said. "There's executives who make those decisions. We'll see what happens. If things start progressing quicker, we can push the envelope a little bit."
