MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Police are investigating after they said at least eight homeowners woke up Thursday to discover that their mailboxes had been vandalized overnight.

It happened at houses along Green Meadow Boulevard and Four Winds Drive, CBS 2 reported.

Residents said this happens every year and they don’t know who did it.

“You assume they’re kids and when they grow up they realize it wasn’t a good idea,” said resident Jill Leone. “But I guess kids do what kids think is fun.”

“It is very annoying,” another resident said. “My husband has to keep coming out and fix the mailbox. We are afraid to put out a nice mailbox because it’s going to get ruined.”

Police said they know it is the kids in the neighborhood, but so far there have been no arrests, CBS 2 reported.
