Pellegrino is a supporter of the environmental group Blue Frontier Campaign, which is raising awareness about New Jersey's ailing waterway system.

"This is about my kids, this is about everyone's kid," Pellegrino said. "We're really messing around with New Jersey's water resources."

The south Jersey native said she hopes her hard work will be recognized.

"I really hope people start thinking about their impact on our water and I hope that people think and often care enough to do something," Pellegrino said.

Weather permitting, Pellegrino expects to end her journey on Friday when she reaches Newark.
