5 Injured When Car Jumps Curb In Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A total of five people were hospitalized Friday night after a car jumped the curb near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and 145th Street in Harlem Friday night, the FDNY said.

A red cargo van was cut off by another car, which caused it to jump the curb, striking a nearby building, 1010 WINS reported. The van then bounced off that building and came to rest against another building, hitting a woman on the sidewalk.

"The black car turned and the burgundy van hit the car. The car swerved out of control," one witness who did not want to be identified said.

"I was sitting over here with some friends waiting on the bus and I just heard a screeching sound, noise, and we turned around and we saw a car coming up on the sidewalk, you know, like it was out of control, somebody might have lost control of it," witness Jerry McBride said.

Witnesses told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola a child was rescued from the vehicle.

1010 WINS' Derrick Dennis was told by locals that the driver of the vehicle was led away in handcuffs by police.

The other vehicle in the incident reportedly sped off and has not yet been found.

Three people had serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while two people suffered minor injuries, authorities told WCBS 880.

As of late Friday, there was no information on the genders or ages of those injured.
