NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Police say a Long Island man threatened officers with a knife after setting fire to a home and barricading himself inside.

Peter Marren is charged with arson and criminal contempt after the incident around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Main Street, Islip.

Police say the 45-year-old threatened to harm himself and the officers as they tried coaxing him from the burning home.

Officers eventually pulled him to safety.

Police say officers Arthur DeBono and Todd Jackson and Sergeant Andrew Manfredonia were treated for smoke inhalation.

Marren is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Information on his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
