Police: Man Found Dead Near Train Tracks In Bogota Not Hit By Train

BOGOTA, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in northern New Jersey say a man found dead near railroad tracks apparently was not struck and killed by a train.

Two pedestrians reportedly discovered the body late Friday night in a secluded area along the tracks near Elm Avenue, Bogota police told The Record. The discovery came after the pedestrians noticed a "pungent odor'' in the area.

Police officials have not disclosed how long the body may have been at the location. They also declined to release the man's name, pending notification of his relatives.

It remains unclear how the man ended up there and how he died.

Train traffic in the area was delayed while the death was investigated.
