Yankees' Ellsbury Sits Out Saturday With Sore Ankle

TORONTO (AP) -- Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays because of a sore left ankle.

Ellsbury was injured when he slid into Toronto catcher Dioner Navarro in the ninth inning of New York's 6-3 win Friday. Home plate umpire Mike Everitt initially ruled Ellsbury safe, but the call was overturned on review. Ellsbury remained in the game in the bottom half. X-rays afterward were negative.

Ellsbury went 2 for 5 with a two-run homer and a triple Friday, boosting his average to .500 (11 for 22) with four homers and nine RBIs in the first five games of New York's road trip. Overall this season, he's batting .286 with 14 homers and 64 RBIs.

The Yankees are off Monday before opening a six-game homestand Tuesday, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he'd consider putting Ellsbury back in the lineup Sunday if the ankle improved, possibly as the designated hitter.

Brett Gardner started in center Saturday.
