East Williamsburg Building Deemed 'Most Diverse' In NYC

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – With New York City being such a melting pot, you think it'd be hard to determine which building is the most diverse.

But as 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, some demographic crunchers have figured out that 37 Leonard Street in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn is worthy of the title.

Resident Luciano has lived in the building a long time and says it's a microcosm of New York City.

"It's been changing for a while," he said.

Joe says diversity is what the Big Apple is all about.

"You know, don't even come to New York if you can't deal with diversity. One day you're going to have Thai food, the next day you're going to have Arabic food and then whatever else, you know," he told Baumgarten. "And also the people; I'm Puerto Rican, my wife is Polish."

Longtime residents say the building used to be predominantly Latino and now the building is home to many Caucasians as well as east Asians.
