Antrel Rolle On WFAN: Giants Need 'More Fight, More Attitude'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants started the season 0-6 in 2013, and after a disappointing preseason they needed to come out strong on Monday night in their opener against the Lions.

They did the exact opposite, falling flat in an ugly 35-14 defeat at Ford Field.

Safety Antrel Rolle admits that, coming off last year, it was especially important to come out with a bang on Monday Night Football.

"Last year left such a bitter taste in our mouth," the three-time Pro Bowler told WFAN co-hosts Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Tuesday afternoon. "You want to get off to an early start so you can kind of erase those memories. The way we looked last night, we didn't look good.

"I don't think there's one phase of the game where I can actually say that we looked like we were a team ready to come out there and compete against the schedule that we have in front of us this season."

Big Blue had no answer for wide receiver Calvin Johnson, and the offense looked terrible in its first game under offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

Quarterback Eli Manning looked as bad as he did in 2013, completing 18 of 33 passes for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

"We need more fight," Rolle told Joe & Evan. "I feel like the team needs more fight. We need more attitude ... I think we're relying on our talent way too much as opposed to going out there and being dominant, being feisty, having that dog. That's something that you need as a team. Right now, I think we're a little bit too lax out there."

The Giants will host the Cardinals in Week 2.
